I wanted to share my love of sunsets in book form because of the constant encouragement of friends, family, and my Facebook fans. My passion for all things was instilled in me by my mother, Marilyn Stone, and my work ethic by my father, Charles Stone. I also inherited my artistic talents from my mother, as she was a fashion and interior designer, and influenced by my Aunt Audrey as she was a professional artist.
I have lived in the three counties of Long Island my entire life, Suffolk, Nassau, and Queens ,and always wanted to live in a town where I could march in a parade as I did when I was a Boy Scout. My wife, Ginny, and I settled in the waterfront hamlet of Port Washington where we could plant our roots and contribute and participate in town events. My new Port friends, Jerry and Carl, thought I was the perfect candidate for the Kiwanis Club of Manhasset-Port Washington. Little did I know that this was their sales pitch, and they were good, kind of like Abbott and Costello.
I joined the Kiwanis Club, then the Lions Club, and was asked to join the board of several local organizations such as the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce, the Adult Activities Center of Manorhaven, and Project Independence in Port Washington. I am particularly proud of being a co-founder of the non-profit organization, Project HELP Long Island, whose mission is to provide education and resources for mental health and substance abuse awareness.
